“Doubt isn't the opposite of faith; it is an element of faith.”
- Paul Tillich
We have a tendency to marginalize our doubts, to mistrust our misgivings, and to live as though our faith must always be firm as the God in whom we place it. Yet, according to the author of Hebrews, faith is the hope in things unseen. It’s easy to believe if we have had the privilege of Thomas to press our hands into the raised flesh of Jesus.
We don’t get to press that flesh, to confirm for ourselves that Jesus wasn’t an apparition or mass hallucination, but we don’t have to face our doubts alone. The Body of Christ that we get to press is our Christian community, our church family. As we prepare for our Lenten SPC Together series, we will be providing cards in worship (and in the adjacent form) to share our doubts, questions, concerns, and misgivings about faith. Questions can be submitted anonymously or with your name. We are looking forward to examining the hard parts of our faith together, in community.
